Why EyeOR? (pdf)
About EyeOR, Inc.
In 2003, EYEOR, INC. was formed to provide a new and unique approach to intraocular refractive surgery in ophthalmology and optometry.
EYEOR, INC. has identified several intraocular refractive services and products to address the markets growing refractive patient population needs in eyecare at this time. The most popular and most common procedure for this surgery is LASIK surgery. LASIK is performed over 1.8million times a year in the US alone.
Most all LASIK surgeons will note that there are now several new procedures for refractive surgery that would involve the implantation of an optical implant inside the eye to correct for myopia or hyperopia. This intraocular surgery can easily be performed using the same skills that are used for state of the art cataract procedures today. In fact, most LASIK refractive surgeons perform cataract implants as well in hospital and other Medicare approved operating rooms.
Some more progressive and aggressive LASIK markets have witnessed an increased number of refractive surgeons performing intraocular techniques for refractive surgery, and have begun to perform these surgical procedures in addition to their LASIK services. Recent surveys have shown that there are presently over 20% of the LASIK surgeons already performing an intraocular procedure for hyperopia which involves a clear lens extraction and replacement with an IOL (intraocular lens).
This procedure is growing in popularity, and market acceptance in the US over the last several years. New technology has recently been FDA approved for the implantation of an IOL type product for the correction of myopia without extracting the natural crystalline lens. These new implants are called phakic IOLs, or lens within the phakic eye (eye with natural lens). This procedure is the fastest growing refractive procedure worldwide where several phakic IOLs are already being marketed. In the US market however, we now have two FDA approved phakic implants.
Based upon need and market size of these new intraocular refractive procedures, we see a strong interest in these new products and services in the US market over the next several years as more and more refractive surgeons embrace this new approach to refractive surgery. EYEOR, INC. plans to introduce these new procedures in a cost effective and clinically safe approach so that most all refractive surgeons can perform these operations in a safe and profitable manner when compared to other laser procedure alternatives.
The opportunity that EYEOR, INC. intends to explore is providing products and services in a cost effective manner to the surgeon interested in offering the latest intraocular refractive procedures to their patients. With over 30 locations across the US market, and growing, EyeOR has shown several surgeons how they can perform these new IOR procedures as profitably as they currently perform LASIK in their office locations.
